There is an active and growing cycling community in Puerto Escondido. In the last few years more and more people have been getting on their bikes and cycling all around Puerto Escondido in Mexico.

Cycling around Puerto Escondido can be done on any bike – but most local people use a mountain bike. A gravel bike could be ridden 90% of the locations because the roads just outside of town are hard packed dirt. A few people ride road bikes but they only ride along the major roads like the costal hi-way 200 or out to the mountain towns like San Pedro or Colotepec. View some cycling routes here.
There are not really any mountain biking single tracks or downhill tracks, but there are a few biking trails that are a bit “chunky” where a MTB bike will serve you better than a gravel or road bike.

Because of the hot annual temperatures, most cycling in Puerto Escondido is done early in the morning or around sunset. Some cyclists find it better to begin their bike rides in the dark before it gets too hot and when there is less traffic. Other cycling is done once the sun has gone down, but you will want to make sure you have good bike lights and choose a route not to remote.

Recreational Cycling Club
There is also a Puerto Escondido Recreational Cyclists Strava club who organise group rides a few times each month. On Strava you can find many segments and routes for all levels of cyclists. Most cycling routes are about 2 hours long and will take you outside of the built up areas where you can enjoy the tropical countryside scenes.

Bike rides are happening daily in Puerto Escondido, so if you want to go cycling with others, connect with the Recreational Cycling of Puerto Escondido Club using Instagram to get information about the Whatsapp group.
